1960s Martin 3M HIGHLY FIGURED Mahogany Ukulele Style 3 Uke
1960s Martin 3M HIGHLY FIGURED Mahogany Ukulele Style 3 Uke
This is the final version of the Style 3 mahogany ukulele martin made before ceasing ukulele manufacturing in the late 1960s. By this point, the 3M was a custom order and had changed in design to a degree from the earliest examples. Its lovely 7-ply edge and 10-ply rosette back and white binding are all in wonderful shape, as is the finish, which has darkened to a lovely gold. This 3M features some stunning flamed mahogany, which is unlike most examples from this era! Martin had increased its nut width to 1 7/8 by this point, making modern playing styles much easier.
Overall length: 21 in. (53.3 cm.)
Width: 6 3/8 in. (16.2 cm.)
Depth: 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.)
Scale length: 13 1/2 in. (343 mm.)
Nut Width: 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.)
This is a very well preserved example of the rare top of the line (for its time) flame mahogany 3M ukulele. While not entirely free of evidence of playtime, it is very clean overall. It came into the shop seemingly having never been set up beyond what was done in the factory originally. After a precision setup, it plays as excellent as it looks! These were rarely manufactured by this point in Martin's distinguished history and rarely come up for sale. Original case included.
